For munich artist Wilhelm Holderied, his atelier in a backyard courtyard in central Munich is no longer the focal point, but is instead the point of departure and return.

Wilhelm Holderied pursues the unrequited dream of his youth - the dream of flight. He escapes from the confined courtyard, rises upwards and, in the course of is journey to magnetic shores, he discovers new and surprising spaces for ideas between floating clouds and the firm earth.

Along the way, he designs and deposits striktingly distinctive landmarks: his Earthsign AN ISLAND IN TIME at Munich Airport; the Watersign A BOOKMARK FOR THE EARTH at Hannover Airport and magically poetic sculptures like THE ARCH OF THE WIND, the Earth Sleigh THE PATIENT ROOTS, and the flying signs THE CLOUD PLOUGH and THE PATIENT JOURNEY.

The ultimate consequence of this trajectory leads him to the moon, where he plans to inscribe an earthly sign in the lunar dust as a symbol of a potential encounter with the mysteries of outer space.

He invites the beholder to accompany him on this journey, to participate in the genesis, evolution and realization of the ideas which culminate in these signs in the landscape. He calls attention to the magically evocative connections between nature and art, and by following the tracks which these phases of his journey have left in the form of paintings, graphics and sculptures, he leads the reader back to his atelier.
